The Story behind the idea

Originally I come from IT, for 20 years I have been developing websites and applications for customers. Even if that is still part of my life today, for many years I have dreamed of only making art and living off of it. For years I have made books, breathed new life into old book covers or wild junk journals with a mixture of fabric, paper, photos …

But since I started living in my Sprinter in 2018 and didn’t have much space for materials, I discovered my love for macrame. Over the months, many different designs and models were created from a handful of different knots. So I decided to combine my two professions and that’s how the idea for ‘VanMade’ came about: many Vanlifers are also artists, free spirits with an unbelievable amount of creative energy. So I decided to give these artists (and me) a platform to sell their products. This is how VanMade came about

Ursprünglich komme ich aus der IT, 20 Jahre lang habe ich fest angestellt Webseiten für Kunden entwickelt. Auch heute ist das noch ein Teil meines Lebens, aber schon viele Jahre träumte ich davon nur noch Kunst zu machen und davon zu leben. Jahrelang habe ich Bücher hergestellt, alten Buchcovern ein neues Leben eingehaucht oder wilde Junk-Journals mit einer Mischung aus Stoff, Papier, Fotos…. 

Seitdem ich aber in meinem Sprinter lebe und nicht mehr viel Platz für Materialien habe, entdeckte ich meine Liebe zum Makramee. Aus einer Hand voll unterschiedlicher Knoten entstanden so im Laufe der Monate viele unterschiedliche Designs und Modelle. Also entschied ich meine zwei Berufe zu verbinden und so entstand die Idee zu ‘VanMade’: viele VanLifer sind auch KünsterInnen, Freigeister mit einer unglaublichen Menge an kreativer Energie. Also beschloss ich, diesen Künstern (und mir) eine Plattform zu bieten, um ihre Produkte zu verkaufen. So entstand VanMade <3
